Helpful Internet Terminology

Here is a listing of key Internet terminology to help you understand programs and descriptions along with how the outcome of online design, development and marketing helps your business.

Strategy: Specific plan of action intended to accomplish your specific goals. In other words, strategies delineate exactly what you plan to do — cleverly — to surprise your competitors and reach your goals.

Tactics: Tactics refer to actions you take to accomplish the goals you have planned.

Keyword Marketing Analysis: We research and evaluate keywords to use on your individual web pages that people are actually using to search. It doesn't do any good to optimize your web page that will not deliver results . . . so we take extra time to identify primary and secondary relevant keywords for each applicable web page. Once we have the applicable number of keywords associated with the Internet marketing program you chose, we submit the list to you for agreement or modification.

Title/Meta Tag Creation:
Every page of your web site must be unique. From title and headline to meta keywords, descriptions, comments and alt tags, we use the keyword listing to embed the applicable tags on the web pages and upload the page to the server.

Page Content Development or Search Engine Optimization:
Content must likewise be embedded with selections from your keyword listing. Your existing content is evaluated and modifications are made to include the same keywords selected for your title/meta tags on each existing web page. Care is given not to disturb your sales message as modifications are made to your text.

Search Engine Sitemap (SES):
This is a special file that is created, placed in the root directory of your site and hidden from public view. It is a listing of relevant web pages with absolute links. The file also indicates what pages or site files not to include. An SES gives your site a higher opportunity to be indexed. Rather than your site waiting for search engine spiders to crawl your site, the SES sends your files to the search engine — letting the engine know about the files you want indexed.

Search Engine Submissions: This means that files are prepared and requests are made to search engines asking that your site page be crawled and indexed in the search engine database. Acceptance of your request results in your site being displayed in the found listing when a person searches using one or another search engine from their browser.

Persistent: By this term, we mean "ongoing" or continues until stopped.

Setup or Initial Fee:
This refers to the initial financial fee. It is a one-time fee and generally covers the extra time it takes to prepare the program. A setup fee also covers any one-time out-of-pocket fees paid on your behalf to subscribed services.

Free Directory Submissions: These are generally relative directories that provide your site with an inbound link as well as some or more free traffic. These particular directories do not have a fee to get listed.

Inbound Link:
Hyperlinks that live on other websites that link back to one of your web pages.

Outbound Link: Hyperlinks that live on your website that links to another domain.

Link Building:
An activity of finding link partners with sites that have related content, but do not compete — and are willing to exchange links so you both gain the benefit of inbound and outbound linking.

Paid Directory Submissions:
Key web directories that require payment in order to be listed.

Sales Copywriting:
Not part of search engine optimization. It means to create, review or rewrite copy with the primary objective of motivating a response from a reader.

Copy Editing: Review existing copy and suggest modifications, if needed.

For Life of Program:
Ongoing until term ends or is cancelled.

Web Pages: In general, a web page consists of a standard size that meets current browser and computer screen windows. Here is a list of typical startup website pages:

* Home page
* Contact page with form
* About us page
* Overview page
* Opt-in page with form

Web Form: A web page with a form, such as a contact form, refers to the process of adding a script to the hidden area of the server. Form fields are programmed and the form is linked to the script so that the browser knows what to do when the submit button is clicked. There are many web form scripts. Clients can choose to omit the web form and use a simple email address. In this event, bots can collect the email address and use it in mass spamming. We counteract this strife by obfuscating email addresses for our clients using Javascript.

Web Host: Supporting a website with reliable web hosting is essential for a business. Low-cost hosting is bare bones and the lower fee is due to missing server tools. A business website needs to rely on a web host that provides stable server resources such as mySQL database, PHP scripts, CGI scripts for web forms to function. We do not guarantee performance of websites that are not using reliable hosting services.

Order our reliable web hosting for your business site. If you don't already have hosting, we setup your hosting on our servers for free. It's better to choose the best now. Later, when problems pop up, it could be costly to move your site. We provide hosting to insure the sites we build for our clients have needed resources and no problems loading and displaying.

Copywriting: Copywriting generally refers to writing information in an organized manner and does not necessarily include direct response strategies unless specifically stated. A standard page of copywriting is 500 words unless otherwise specified.

Search Engine Optimization:
This service refers to the process of adding meta tags and word content to include a target keyword. This is the process done to support a high ranking in the search engine found list. However, it is not the only criteria. For example, the number of visitors, inbound link popularity and quality of the host server are also calculations that search engines consider when ranking the web page.

Internet Marketing: Internet marketing is the name for creating buzz, getting the word out, letting people know about the great products and services you offer. There are several ways to market online.

When starting out, the first two outcomes you want are: (1) continuous invitations to search engines to crawl your site; and (2) the continuous task of increasing the number of inbound links that point to your website, which is done to show search engines your site is popular. Link popularity leads to higher search engine ranking on the found listing page.

We provide several marketing services and programs. The programs we recommend for startups and new websites are the basic choices to support these two outcomes.

Search Engine Registration: Registration is the process done to notify major search engines, directories and blogs, as applicable, that your site launched and is ready to receive web traffic. The primary reason is to invite search engine robots to crawl your site and index it. As a result, when someone enters one of your keywords in the search field, your site is one of the sites listed on the search engine found page.

This service is included with our marketing plans. If you do not subscribe to a marketing plan, then at least order one of these one-time registration services. Otherwise, it could be a year before your site is indexed.

Web Maintenance: After the site is launched, a site owner may want to make changes to the site. There is generally a fee involved to cover our time. This may not be a problem when changes are only a few times a year. But most new sites want to make changes more often, especially in the first year. Save on the fee and pick up added services with one of the web maintenance plans — which include updates to the site.

Email System: It's essential to success that a website provide a way to maintain contact with visitors. An email system with a web form is the solution for millions of websites. Without an email system or web form, a website has no way to know who visited the site and how to contact them. Even though this email system is optional, it is essential that a site have some way to contact visitors.
