Your Images
Visuals are any pictures or graphic images you want to display on your website or electronic/digital product, such as an ebrochure, email, HTML newsletter, slide show or ebook.
Typically, images are only part of a copywriting project when specifically stated in the estimate, quote or in our online store.
Examples may be a picture of you, an image of your logo, an insignia, award, certificate you earned, staff, buildings and pictures of your products. Visuals are whatever image you want on to display that is NOT artwork that we will create for you.
Send pictures as uniform in size as possible - in other words, send several images all as close to the same size, if possible. Here are size preferences:
1. Thumbnails should be no larger than 150x150 px for an ecommerce shop
2. Standard size is 250 px wide or 250 px high for web pages with navigation menus and sidebar text
3. Closeup or detailed views of products are generally 400 x 400 px (preferred) or as large as 500x500 px.
(Larger picture sizes contribute to a slow load time in an electronic format and viewers become impatient although we can optimize by slicing to display on standard web pages.)
You can use a digital camera to take pictures, or check with your local photo store. There are many places that can take your glossy photos and transfer them to a digital format. You can even get a disposable camera that takes digital photos. A store, such as Kinkos, might be able to scan a document and give it to you in a digital format on a disc.
Format specifications for websites
72 dpi resolution
500 pixels wide (a large size we can reduce - if we enlarge a small format, the visual gets skewed and blurry)
.jpg for color or black/white
.gif for transparent backgrounds
For voice/sound, send an MP3 file
How to Send Files
To submit image files to our design and development team, login to the HelpDesk:
Attach each image using this HelpDesk open ticket system. Identify what the image file is with a brief statement in the body of your message. State what web page it should be used on.
> > > Mention in the body of your message that an attachment is included.
If you have many images or product pictures, you can save them to a CD and send with your client-supplied materials.
You could also zip the file if you have the 'zip utility' on your computer, or just attach them one at a time.
If all else fails, you can use YouSendIt.com to submit images for your project.
Keep in mind that if you ordered an ecommerce shop, you have an admin zone to upload images directly to your website. If you are only planning to display images, such as for artwork (not for sale), consider a Gallery web enhancement so you can manage your images using a content management system. Please inquire about this for more information.
Notes:
Only a few issues have cropped up causing an upload problem and they mostly concern browsers and the size of your image.
