How to Make People Like You

Create a selling environment on your website by first helping the visitor perceive that your offer solves their prolem and provides the solution they want. Make it believable and fair. Make every offer easy to act on.

In our social circles, it feels good to know that people you meet *like you.* But it is a lot more than a good feeling when it comes to business. Most people won't buy from a company or a person they don't like.

It's easy to see this in action when you go shopping and a salesperson approaches you and then lingers close by as you browse the shelves of items. It becomes uncomfortable, doesn't it? Most shoppers head for the exit without making a purchase when they are not comfortable. Imagine what you'd do when you don't like a company or person.

How do you feel when you call your local telephone or cable company customer service line and have to punch a series of choices on your telephone keypad to finally get to the 20-minute waiting line. I don't know about you, but it's not a pleasant experience for me. But all can be saved if the customer service person who finally answers knows how to establish a rapport. I tend to like this person even after all my frustration going through the process.

*Like* is an important word. You want people to like you and your business, because when people like you, both you and your customer benefit, and your bottom line fills up with numbers.

What is behind buyer behavior, why do people buy and how can you make people like YOU... and buy from YOU?

These are the fundamental questions that underlie all marketing and sales. You can't really make people buy what they don't want... or can you? Marketing strategists have proven time and again that people want to buy... but want to be persuaded to buy.

So most of the time, buyer behavior is driven by the desire to order but that can quickly be overshadowed by what the relationship is. Amazon is a good example:

Just about everyone knows Amazon and believes that Amazon products provide value, mainly because they do. You can buy with confidence from Amazon, because Amazon is well liked and trusted.

So how do you get people to like you and trust you? It's easy! What you do can be summarized in these few words:

  1. Start with a positive attitude toward the other person
  2. Synchorinze actions, get in step with the prospect
  3. Identify common topics of interest
  4. Use the correct conversational tone
  5. Emphasize the sensory preferences of the other person

"The secret to making people like you" in business is all about how you connect with your visitors, prospects, customers, colleagues, partners, suppliers and even total strangers who contact you with a question.

Succes in business depends on how effectively you communicate your ideas, provide tips on how your products and services benefit your prospective buyers, and how you explain why your offer is the deal of a lifetime.

The key [then] to making others like you quickly lies in establishing a rapport: you have to find out what you have in common (even if you seemingly have nothing in common). You want to purposely try to become like the other person for a short time. Mirror their likes and dislikes. Use the same wording.

Simple Rapport Building Techniques

First, adopt a positive attitude right away. Whether it's email, a phone call or in person, make sure your words, tone, and gestures all say the same thing. "I like you!"

Synchronize your attitude and body movements to those of the other person's (which makes the person feel comfortable with you--although he or she may not know why); and ask friendly, open-ended questions to show interest. Smile when you talk and when you write emails. Be agreeable. Make a note of people's names and use their name in your conversations. Last. Listen well.

In sales situations, the hard part is being genuinely interested in what the other person is saying. You have to shut up and really listen to what they are saying. Focus. Be intuitive about their wants and needs. Many business sellers don't even let their prospect finish what they are saying before they start selling. That's a good indicator that they weren't listening, and people like people who listen to them.

The beauty of it is, if you listen successfully, you will never have to worry about running out of things to talk about. Because if you are genuinely listening to what the other person is saying, you naturally discover questions you can ask them to keep the conversation rolling.

For most people, a winning relationship is simple common sense. Just do what mom said. If those pearls of wisdom are buried in the back of your brain, dust them off and bring em out. You know what they are. Do unto others as you want them to do unto you. People will like YOU when they feel that YOU like them.

Here's a great tip: If you want to make people like you, don't tell your story. Ask them a question that leads to their story. Be interested in what they are interested in and they will think highly of you.

Step one: Make or sell products people like and want to own... something that solves a problem.
Step two: Market smart... How will anyone know your product exists? Will you use paid advertising, handout your business card or cold call? Will prospects see your Google ad in search results? Are you on Facebook.

You can have the greatest product in the world, but without marketing and advertising no one ever knows about it and that means no sales.

You can create a relationship where people like you... and buy from you. Easily. Polish your personal and business demeanor. Refresh your ability to establish rapport quickly.
